A great resource to tell you what counts for community benefit is the CHA’s A Guide for Planning and Reporting Community Benefit. You can access this on the http://www.chausa.org website. Another helpful tool is the What Counts Q&A

On the http://www.communitybenefitconnect.org website, check out the About Us tab, What is community benefit? to give you an overview of what qualifies as community benefit. In most cases the direct costs of your community benefit work do count. So your question if the paper and printing costs of preparing materials for a class count. The answer is yes, if that class is focused on improving health, it is open to the public and free of charge, it counts as community benefit.
